Description
Positron emission tomography (PET) is a diagnostic modality that creates high resolution 3 dimensional tomographic images of the distribution of positron emitting radionuclides in the human body. The radiolabeled compounds used include substrates, ligands, drugs, antibodies, neurotransmitters and other biomolecules that are tracers for specific biological processes. Recent reports on dual isotope simultaneous acquisition (DISA) of low energy perfusion tracer NUBI and FDG will help in detection of hibernating myocardium that cannot otherwise be seen. FDG is the most common of the PET radiopharmaceuticals and is used for metabolic imaging in neurology, cardiology, and the same applications can be repeated with cost effective SPECT system
