Results from beam tests of a 2.4 m straw chamber

  • 1. Lab. de l'Accelerateur Lineaire, CNRS-IN2P3 et Univ. de Paris-Sud, 91 - Orsay (France)

Description

Straw chambers have been shown to have good position resolution. By virtue of their cylindrical geometry they are capable of operating in vacuum, which opens the interesting possibility of tracking with a minimum of material. The feasibility of constructing a large surface straw chamber has been studied. A prototype chamber with 2.4 m long straws capable of operating in vacuum has been developed and tested in beams at CERN. (orig.)
