Radionuclides in the environment and some geophysical problems

Description

Two types of radionuclides contained in the atmosphere are studied including inert radioactive gas 85Kr possessing no chemical bonds at normal temperatures and dissolved in water, and radioactive iodine isotopes possessing multiple chemical bonds under the same conditions and wide possibilities of penetration to the earth hydrosphere. It is shown that with regard to expected nuclear power progress and respective increase of 85Kr concentration in the surface atmosphere layer the ion production near the Earth can aclieve the value of 5.0 ion/(cm3xs), this, in its turn, changes notably the electric conductivity in the lower troposphere and leads to the reduction of the total negative charge of the planet and decrease of sedimentation in equatorial and pre-equatorial regions of the Earth where sediments are linked with storm formation. Investigation into radioactive iodine isotopes, and especially 129I, has shown that these isotopes are the products of the nuclear fuel cycle plant releases. They actively penetrate to the atmosphere and remain in all geospheres of the Earth and participate in all processes occuring in them due to multiple chemical bonds. A conclusion is made about the necessity in the nature dosimetry and its protection against pollution. 5 refs.; 3 figs
