Folded Tandem Ion Accelerator at BARC

  • 1. Nuclear Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Recently, a FOTIA facility has been setup at BARC to deliver low energy heavy and light ion beams. It involved designing, fabrication and commissioning of a Folded Tandem Ion Accelerator (FOTIA) with a maximum terminal voltage of 6 MW. It has been done in a very cost effective manner by utilizing a large part of the infrastructure of the existing 5.5 MV Van-de-Graaff accelerator at BARC. The beams of several ions up to A∼10 and energy up to 66 MeV can be accelerated
