Structural and superconducting characteristics of single-phase specimens of Bi(Pb)-2223 and Tl-2223 prepared after optimizing the preparation conditions are described. The role of vacancies at Ca-sites in Tl-2223 is addressed. The long-term stability of the superconducting and structural characteristics of both Bi(PB)-2223 and Tl-2223 is discussed. 39 refs
