Commercial operation of a codisposal, composting, landfilling and power generation system at Kaiserslautern, FRG
Description
A unique codisposal composting plant operates at Kaiserslautern, West Germany. The design and operating features of this plant are discussed. Special attention is given to a cascading mill which forms the technological core piece. An annual mass balance is presented which allows for a comparison of inputs and outputs. The various products are characterized and estimates are furnished for their potential revenues. Capital and operating costs are projected for a similar plant adapted to US conditions. Both single and duel shift operations are considered. Annual budgets are compiled in order to allow estimates of the annual surplus expected. Synergistic effects between the composting plant and the adjacent landfill are point out, together with the usefulness of on-site biogasification
