Enthalpy of formation of liquid yttrium-nickel alloys

Description

Investigated were the heats of mixing in liquid solutions of yttrium with nickel. Experiments were carried out at a temperature of 1923 K in an isothermic calorimeter whose principle of operation is based on the use of the differential thermal analysis. Substantially negative values were found for partial heats of mixing, evidencing of a strong interaction between the components of the Y-Ni solution. The experimental data were discussed from the viewpoint of donor-acceptor character of the interatomic interaction in the formation of alloys of transition metals with partly unfilled d electron levels
