High-voltage accelerator

Description

A high-voltage accelerator containing a cascade generator, a full-wave circuit of voltage multiplication, a supply transformer and a compensating coil is described. To increase efficiency and simplify the construction, the compensating coil is made on the basis of a ferromagnetic core with a continuously adjustable non-magnetic gap and it has additional winding, which output terminals are joined up to high-voltage auxiliary equipment. Application of the compensating coil suggested permits to obtain optimal voltage distribution in generator cascades and thus to avoid large voltage reserves in generator construction. Absence of reactive current achieved by accurate adjustment as well as decrease of energy losses in the supply system increases considerably the efficiency of accelerator performance. Small sizes, adaptability to manifacture, absence of the magnetic field outside the compensating coil permit to find wide application of the accelerator suggested especially for low-power devices
