Chernobyl NPP closure and prospects of Ukrainian nuclear power industry development

A decommissioning stage at Chernobyl NPP has been started after its Unit 3 shut down. World community does not possess any experience in RBMK reactors decommissioning. Ukraine is in the lead among the other states with similar reactors. Technical problems of Chernobyl NPP Units decommissioning, as well as social ones are covered in this article. According to possibilities and recourses considered, Ukraine has all the opportunities to develop nuclear power engineering industry. The main streamline of Ukrainian nuclear power industry development during the next several years are presented. A special attention is paid to lifetime prolongation of operating now nuclear power plants. The proposals are formulated concerning the use of Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, ChNPP industrial site for nuclear power industry development
