Study of meter wavelength continuum radiation from the Sun
Description
Solar continuum radiation at metric wavelengths occurs in a wide variety of forms. It can have a lifetime ranging from less than a minute to several weeks, a brightness temperature from near the quiet sun level to 1012 K and a degree of circular polarization from 0 to 100 percent. The three types of continuum radio bursts most closely related to the flare event are studied: Type V, flare continuum and moving Type IV. The principal objective is to understand the dynamics of the radio events, the radio emission mechanism and the physical properties of the corona. Synchrotron and Langmuir wave emission processes under coronal conditions are studied. The radiation from several electron energy distributions and from isotropic and anisotropic pitch angle distributions is calculated numerically. The results of these investigations are applied in deriving theoretical models of each type of continuum event
