Experimental and theoretical studies of combined radiative and convective transfer in CO2 and H2O laminar flows

Description

Coupled radiative and convective transfer are studied experimentally and theoretically in the case of CO2 and H2O laminar flows. A channel with uniform wall temperatures and a rectangular cross-section of aspect ratio equal to 5 is used. A non-intrusive optical measurement technique, based on high resolution spectroscopy of carbon monoxide, is used to measure temperature profiles at two cross-sections of the channel. This technique appears to be more precise than shielded thermocouple measurements. The optical measurements are in good agreement with the results of a previously developed model in which spectral radiative properties of the flowing gas are calculated by using a statistical narrow-band model. The agreement between theoretical and experimental results is checked for both temperature profiles and the global heat transfer between the measurement sections. (author)
