Mechanical design and development of 10 MeV DTL cavities and its support structures for LEHIPA
- 1. Ion Accelerator Development Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
Description
BARC is developing a Low Energy (20 MeV) High Intensity (10 mA CW) Proton Accelerator (LEHIPA) as a front-end injector for 1 GeV accelerator. It consists of a 50 keV ion source, a 3 MeV Radio-Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) and standard Drift-Tube Linac (DTL) structures to accelerator the beam up to 20 MeV. Here we describe the DTL structures for the 3-10 MeV section. Mechanical design for DTL was finalized and manufacturing process was planned to achieve high degree of geometric precision. Girder based Drift-Tube alignment mechanism was adopted to achieve precision on Drift Tube positioning and to get desired compressive force on spring energized metallic seals. However, many unique design features are incorporated in the design and manufacturing process of DTL. Those details are also presented. (author)
