Prompt and thermal light charged particle emissions in central 40Ar (1100 MeV) + 24Mg reaction

Description

Protons, deuterons, tritons and alpha-particles have been measured in coincidence with the evaporation residues emitted in the whole reaction plane for the 40-Ar (1100 MeV) + 24-Mg central reaction. The use of the so-called inverse-kinematics condition gives the centre-of-mass a large velocity and facilitates the distinction between pre-equilibrium and thermal emissions as they are dominating at the backward and forward angles, respectively. In this work we have elaborated and used a simple two-moving-source model describing the pre-equilibrium and thermal emissions occurring before and after incomplete fusion of heavy-ions, respectively. We have successfully reproduced the energy distribution spectra of protons as well as the relative deuteron, triton and alpha particle to proton yield ratios measured in the 40-Ar (1100 MeV) + 24-Mg reaction over the full angular range in the reaction plan. The number of nucleons emitted over the two regimes, the excitation energy of the compound nucleus and the temperature of thermal emission have been determined and found in reasonable agreement with results from other methods, including microscopic calculations. In view of the simplicity of the model, it constitutes an interesting approach for reactions performed in inverse kinematics condition. 2 figs., 1 ref. (author)
