Megaton class water Cherenkov Detector in east Asia

  • 1. Institute for Cosmic Ray Research and Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe, University of Tokyo (Japan)

Description

Possible megaton class neutrino detectors are discussed in Europe, USA and Asia. This article describes the current work on the design of the detector cavity at Kamioka and the possible physics to be studied with these detectors. As the physics examples, long baseline neutrino oscillation and proton decay are discussed. Special emphasis is made on the relation between the photo-cathode coverage and the performance of the detector.
