Numerical models of rotating stars

  • 1. Indiana Univ., Bloomington (USA). Dept. of Mathematics

Description

Rotating stars are modelled by the equilibrium solution of the Euler equations for a compressible, inviscid fluid subject to selfgravitational and centrifugal forces. These are many difficulties in trying to solve this equation directly. Here, a new method is described, based on discretizing the functional E (rho) and the constraint for density and minimizing the resulting finite dimensional function. (BJ)
