Qualification of a new PWR core monitoring system

  • 1. Nuclear Fuel Dept., Swedish State Power Board, S-162 87 Vaellingby

Description

A project has been initiated at SSPB to upgrade the core monitoring system on our three Westinghouse PWRs. The new system will have a limited number of fixed in-core detectors and an on-line core simulator for core follow and core prediction. The local peaking factor of the core will be evaluated from the fixed in-core detector signals extrapolating to the full core by use of precalculated 2D coupling coefficients and pin data. Present plans aim at licensing the new system to reactor startup in the summer of 1987 for one of the PWRs. The paper describes these plans in detail giving also information on the performance of the fixed in-core gamma thermometers and the core simulator during the initial test phase of the project
