Resonance effects in interaction of magnetoacoustic waves with magnetospheric plasma
Description
The expression for the local increment of cyclotron instability of magnetoacoustic waves in harmonics of the proton gyrofrequency running transverse to the longitudinal inhomogeneous field is obtained. The increment is shown to have the highest value in the equatorial plane of the geomagnetic filled. Characteristic times for relaxation of energetic protons of the ring current and for heating of cold protons of the ionospheric origin are found using the quasilinear equation
