Description

Relativistic distorted-wave electron-collision strengths have been calculated for transitions from the ground state to the 36 n = 3 excited states of neonlike barium. These theoretical results are compared with recent experimental results obtained with the Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Overall good agreement between our calculated results and the experimental results underscores the effectiveness of the new EBIT method for measuring electron-collision cross sections and supports confidence in the theoretical methods used to calculate these cross sections for highly charged ions
