Description
Radiation environment in space is different from that on the earth. High-energy charged particle radiations contribute significantly to the radiation dose to the personnel involved in space activities. With the advent of manned space stations involving extended periods of time and the introduction of younger as well as female crew members it is pertinent to review the existing radiation safety standards. This paper attempts a review of the radiation environment, the hazards and the suggested radiation protection standards for space activities. (author). 32 refs., 6 figs., 4 tabs
