Peculiarities of human thyroid irradiation by ionising radiation in Lithuania
- 1. Institute of Physics, Vilnius (Lithuania)
Description
The aim of the study was the evaluation of the equivalent thyroid doses after the Chernobyl accident and in the nearest vicinity of Ignalina NPP in connection with the epidemiological investigation of thyroid disorders in Lithuania. The evaluation of thyroid doses were performed by means of mathematical modelling, including radioiodine terrestrial pathway and modified ICRP three-compartment cyclic model together with software APSVITA. The results of modelling testify that chronic thyroid exposure in the vicinity of Ignalina NPP has been small as the background irradiation. The results of epidemiological studies demonstrate that one decade after Chernobyl accident thyroid irradiation of Lithuanian inhabitants offer no significant threat to the health of general public (author)
