Surface activation of structural materials at a cyclotron

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Obninsk. Fiziko-Ehnergeticheskij Inst.

Description

The system of activation modes is considered for controlling and investigating the wear properties of various classes of construction materials. The cyclotrone operation mode, characteristics and classification of the materials of construction are given. Among the materials investigated are low-alloy steels and cast irons, high-alloy steels (Kh18N9T and 15Kh12VM), bronzes and brasses, aluminium-based alloys, cobalt alloys, etc. Chemical composition has been taken for the basic classification parameter. In addition to recommendations, the authors suggest a general approach in selecting activation and radiometric modes based on the principles of the method of surface activation, as well as on the cyclotrone possibilities and anticipated wear. In activating low-alloy and high-alloy steels and cast irons, 56Co has been used as the main isotope, and irradiation performed by protons
