Red-shift of the frequency spectra of high power microwaves reflected from a magnetized plasma
Description
Frequency spectra of high-power microwaves reflected from and/or transmitted through a magnetized plasma were measured. Red-shifts of the spectra for reflected waves were observed in cases when the incident microwaves were totally reflected from the plasma. No appreciable frequency shifts were observed in reflected and transmitted waves, when the incident microwaves can transmit through the plasma. The observed red-shifts are attributed to a Doppler-shift effect resulting from a deformation of the plasma column caused by the incident high-power microwaves. (Author)
