Description

The aqueous method of determination of the distribution of 32P in neutron irradiated chlorides is sensitive to the presence of air concentration of carriers and pH of the solution used for the analyses. The distribution can also be changed by the presence of strong reducing agents. A method of analysis using solutions of irradiated N(CH3)4Cl in an hydrous liquid HCl shows most of the 32P to be present as phosphine, hypophosphite and elemental phosphorous precursers, whereas the aqueous analysis leads to substantial oxidation. The aqueous and non-aqueous methods are described in detail. (T.I.)
