Description
This paper describes the overall approach and some of the detailed technique used to remove metallurgical specimens from the inside lower head of the Three Mile Island Unit 2 reactor vessel. Thirty-one metal specimens were taken in February of 1990. The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Nuclear Energy Agency, plan to examine these specimens to determine the extent of damage to the vessel and to provide additional insight into the events that took place inside the vessel during the 1979 accident
