Description
The '' down ''-regulation of the thyroid function by high doses of a pituitary hormone becomes weaker under chronic irradiation in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. At the same time the membrane transport of Ca ions in thyroid cells increases. It is shown by experimental models that the possible cause of observed '' down ''-effect and Ca-membrane transport is radiation peroxide damage of endocrine cells, in consequence of which the DNA synthesis in these cells, which respect to intact ones, may arise under the influence of growth stimulating hormones
