This paper describes the IAEA programme on research reactor safety. It is based on the IAEA statutory functions and responsibilities and responds to the current situation of over 320 research reactors operated around the world. The programme covers the following major areas: development of safety documents for research reactors; safety missions to research reactors; support of research programmes on research reactor safety; and support of Technical Cooperation projects on research reactor safety issues
