Ecological carrying capacity and suitability of land use - part of the Ziarska kotlina Basin; 1 : 25 000

In the years 1996 - 1998 the ecological project Assessment of ecological carrying capacity (ECC) of the region of the Ziarska kotlina Basin (EL Ltd Spisska Nova Ves) was prepared pursuing the methodology of ecological carrying capacity of the landscape (Ustav krajinnej ekologie SAV Bratislava, 1997 Bratislava, 1998). In 20 cadaster territories of the Ziarska kotlina Basin with total area of 22,000 ha along with the economically most important activity (industry) also other socio-economic activities are carried out. Loading of the individual environmental components and suitability of location of the individual socio-economic activities were assessed along with identification of the causes of environmental problems and their solutions. About 89 square km (40.45 % of the total area of interest territory) is situated at the first level of ECC. The second and third levels of ECC cover about 63 km2 (28.64 %) and 68 km2 (30.91 %) respectively. Only a fragment of this territory is presented here. (authors)
