Description

Full text: In color, uranium is like steel, easily yielded to reprocessing. It has three allotropic modifications - α, β and γ with temperatures of phase transformations: α > β 941.8 ± 0.4 deg C, β > γ 1045.2 ± 0.4 deg C; α – has a form of rhombic lattice (a = 2.8538Å, b = 5.8662 Å and c= 4.9557 Å), β – has a form tetragonal lattice (at 720 deg C = 10.759 Å, b = 5.656 Å), γ-has a form of volume-centralized cubic lattice (at 850 deg C a= 3.538 Å). Uranium density in α - form (at 25 deg C) 19.05 ± 0.2 g/cm3; tmelting = 1132 deg C, tboiling= 3818 deg C; specific electrical resistance at room temperature about 3•10-7 ohm•cm, at 600 deg C 5.5•10-7 ohm•cm; superconductivity at 0.68 ± 0.02 K; weak paramagnetic, specific magnetic susceptibility at room temperature 1.72•10-6.
