Description

Recently, digital instrumentation and control (I and C) techniques have been rapidly developed and many digital I and C systems have been applied to BWR NPPs in Japan. The Toshiba Corporation has developed integrated digital I and C systems utilizing the latest digital and man-machine technologies to improve reliability and operability of NPPs at a reasonable cost. This integrated digital monitoring and control system which was applied to the radioactive waste management system as the first step has the following design features: (1) an advanced computerized man-machine interface such as CRT touch operation and hierarchical alarm processing to improve operability and (2) optical digital data transmission and the latest digital components to reduce the number of cables and to improve reliability.
