Influence of boron and silicon on some properties of Ni-Cr-Fe-C alloy

Description

The influence of the percentage content of boron and silicon on the principal properties of Ni-Cr-Fe-C alloy was investigated. Alloys of different boron content (2.0 - 6.0%) without silicon were compared with alloys of a constant boron and variable silicon content (1.0-6.0%). A detailed description is given of experimental Ni-Cr-Fe-C alloy production, including results of metallographic and wettability tests and hardness and melting temperature measurement. It was found that the properties of the alloys produced were dependent on the percentage content of boron. Varying the percentage content of silicon with constant boron content did not significantly change the hardness of the tested alloy, but influenced the wettability. (author)
