  • 1. Dept. of Nuclear Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (India)
  • 2. Dept. of Radiodiagnosis, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (India)

Description

The treatment of hyperthyroidism with 131I is well accepted, effective and a popular method. The most important part of treatment procedure is the delivery of accurate dose to the target volume. Three important parameters that need to be measured for dosimetry are; the 24 hr thyroid uptake (%), the thyroid mass and effective half life of 131I in the gland. In this standardisation of a scintigraphic method to estimate thyroid mass using thyroid phantoms of graded volumes fabricated locally is given. The technique was then used for estimating thyroid size in patients with Grave's disease
