Method of transporting spent nuclear fuels
Description
Purpose: To prevent radioactive contaminations of fuel transportation casks upon transportation of spent fuels, as well as reduce the installation cost for the reprocessing facility. Constitution: A fuel transportation cask is placed in a shielding chamber and a cover is detetched, while a spent fuel is hoisted and mounted on a transportation caster. Then, the transportation caster is caused to run toward a fuel storage pool, to which cooling water is scattered from a shower nozzle disposed to pipeways extended along the running path to cool the spent nuclear fuels. The amount of water per unit hour of the scattered cooling water is increased toward the running direction of the transporting caster. In this way, no large-scaled facility is required for water washing those facilities such as casks and casters. (Yoshino, Y.)
