A set of articles addresses the development of the use of heat pumps for an efficient decarbonization of heating, of domestic hot water and of air conditioning in buildings. A first article outlines the strong development of the heat pump market in France, notably for air-water heat pumps, and in relationship with the introduction of the RE2020 regulation which integrates the use of heat pumps. As far as geothermal heat pumps are concerned, the challenge is to double their market. A second article presents the heat pump operation principle, and indicates ten issues to examine when preparing a project in order to maximise environmental benefits associated with heat pumps. Whereas an interview outlines the need to insulate housings, some realisations are presented: a housing building in Taverny which already complies with the 2031 carbon criteria included in the RE2020 regulation (with a high reduction of heating expenses), a set of low-carbon office buildings in Meylan (near Grenoble) equipped with heat pumps using the R32 cooler
