A-dependence and medium effects in coherent (γ,π0) on nuclei

Description
We present a systematics of angular distributions and of total cross sections for coherent (γ,π0) on nuclei, calculated in the plane wave approximation, in DWIA and with medium modifications. It is in particular shown that medium effects in the photoproduction operator produce sizeable differences with respect to the Δ-hole recipe when π-N dynamics is consistently handled. Total cross sections are shown to increase less than linearly with the mass number A, thus causing no shadowing in nuclear photoabsorption in the Δ region. (author). 20 refs, 5 figs
