Search for new forms of nuclear matter with high energy heavy ion beams
Description
Current efforts toward the search for new forms of nuclear matter are reviewed. In Sec. 1, I describe explicitly what the new forms of nuclear matter are, whether we can create these new forms with high energy heavy ion beams, and the current status of accelerators. Then, four topics are selected in subsequent sections, how to probe experimentally temperature and density (Sec. 2), local compression and local heating (Sec. 3), emission of composite fragments (Sec. 4), and production of nuclei far from the stability line (Sec. 5).
