Simultaneous determination of plutonium and americium in soils by extraction chromatography

Description
In order to simultaneously determine 238Pu, 239,240Pu and 241Am, a procedure suggested earlier for the determination of plutonium in soils was extended in the present paper; a solution of 0.07M DTPA + 1M lactic acid as the eluent was used to separate americium from rare earth elements. The plutonium and americium concentrations in the analyzed samples showed that no difference was found in cultivated and uncultivated soils; on the contrary, a lower concentration was met for the river sediment, due to leaching by water from the river to sea sediments.
