High temperature material problems in MHD power generation
Creators
- 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan). Research Lab. of Engineering Materials
Description
Different types of MHD power generation and its present status are first reviewed. Then, MHD structural material problems are described. In thermal/mechanical aspects, the Faraday type is explained. As high temperature gas is used, electrodes are cooled, therefore such problems as thermal stress arise. In chemical aspects, the open cycle system presents oxidizing atmosphere. For seeding, Alkali as K is used. Due to high temperature, material vaporizes. In electrical aspects, problems of the electrodes include arc generation, alkali, etc. (Mori, K.)
