Description
We show that a relativistic magnetic monopole passing through materials will produce a large number of e+e- pairs, which can be used as a signal for the presence of the monopole. In lead, for example, on the order of 70 pairs per cm are expected for y=100. A similar result holds for heavy nuclei, which may aid in their identification in cosmic rays. (orig.)
