Neutron-induced reaction cross-sections measurements using 3 MV particle accelerator

Description
The 3 MV Pelletron accelerator is about to commission at GGV, Bilaspur and an attempt is being planned to initiate the expansion of our facility for neutron related activities. The proton beam current of 50 μAmp at 6 MeV, is an exciting features of our machine to produce high neutron flux (∼ 109). The accelerated protons will be used for production of neutron beam mainly via the 7Li(p, n) reaction. The proposed facility will provide the high intensity, low energy stable beam which can be used as a platform for extensive studies in the areas related to Nuclear Astrophysics research, Sub-barrier fusion cross-sections, Neutron induced reaction cross-sections. However the available database below 14 MeV, is traditionally of interest. The various isotopes of Cr, Ni, and Zr have limited information for neutron-activation cross sections over an energy region from 1 to 9 MeV. With the above mentioned objective we would like to perform cross-sections measurements by activation technique between 5-10 MeV. In order to have better understanding of these to activation products and reactions mechanism we would also like to perform excitation functions measurements. (author)
