Description

Radon and its transformation products are useful tracers of the vertical exchange processes in the atmosphere, the transport and the residence time of aerosols in the atmosphere and the like. At our workplace, a detection system based on a Si detector with a 450 mm2 sensitive area was built for continuous monitoring of short-lived 222Rn transformants. Air is passed through the filter located in close proximity to the detector on which aerosol particles are captured. Determination of activity of short-lived radon conversion products (218Po, 214Pb, 214Bi and 214Po) is performed by the three-point measurement method (1st interval: air pressure + 20 minutes, 2nd interval: 30 minutes, 3rd interval: - 70 minutes), while the number of pulses registered in the three energy windows 218Po, 214Po and 212Po are used to calculate the activities.
