Seasonal variations of 222Rn, 220Rn and their decay products at different villages around Mysore, India

Description
The concentration of 222Rn, 220Rn and its progeny concentrations in the atmosphere were measured using Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTD), LR-115 type II. In the winter season, the Geometric Median (GM) value of radon and its progeny concentration is found to be 28.60 Bq m-3 and 0.44 mWL; 25.40 Bq m-3 and 0.09 mWL for thoron and its progeny concentration. In the autumn season, GM value of radon and its progeny concentration is found to be 24.70 Bq m-3 and 0.09 mWL; 25.60 Bq m-3 and 0.11 mWL for thoron and its progeny concentration. In the summer season, GM value of radon and its progeny concentration is found to be 24.50 Bq m-3 and 0.10 mWL; 29.60 Bq m-3 and 0.13 mWL for thoron and its progeny concentration. In the rainy season, GM value of radon and its progeny concentration is found to be 20.60 Bq m-3 and 1.82 mWL; 22.20 Bq m-3 and 3.85 mWL for thoron and its progeny concentration. The variation shows that their concentrations occurred higher during winter and lower during rainy season in Mysore. (author)
