Effective charge of moving ions in matter

  • 1. IBM Components Div., Hopewell Junction, NY (USA). East Fishkill Lab.

Description

The stopping power of the 10B+ ion as a function of the Si target-electron position has been calculated applying an extended formalism. The effective charge ratio is presented for 1 keV boron ions on silicon as a function of the distance between the Si and B nuclei. It was found that the quantum shell structure of boron has a strong effect on its stopping power as it moves through a silicon target
