Radiation tolerance of LYSO crystal for the COMET experiment

Description
The COMET experiment aims to search for the neutrino-less µ − e conversion. Electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) of the COMET experiment consists of segmented LYSO scintillating crystals to detect the 105-MeV signal electron with an energy resolution less than 5%. The ECAL is placed in high radiation environment. The effect of neutron radiation was investigated for the LYSO crystals. The performance of the crystals, fluctuation of decay time and light yield, and the increase of the radioactivity were studied in the neutron radiation up to 3 × 1011 neq/cm2. (author)
