Radiochemical reduction of 4,4'-dipyridyl in solid solutions of polyvinyl alcohol

Description

The radiochemical behavior of 4,4'-dipyridyl in films of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was studied by pulsed and stationary radiolysis. The absorption spectra were recorded, and the short-lived and stable products of radiolysis of 4,4'-dipyridyl were identified. It was shown that adducts of solvated electrons to molecules of 4,4'-dipyridyl (λmax = 380 and 580 nm) are the basic colored particles. The radiochemical processes which take place in layers of PVA containing 4,4'-dipyridyl and its salts (viologens) were compared
