An approach of modeling on chemical evolution of groundwater in TRU waste disposal system

  • 1. Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Inst., Tokai Works, Tokai, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

The use of cementitious materials and bentonite is envisaged in the construction of geological disposal facilities for TRU wastes. Groundwater that has reacted with these materials would widely change in the chemical conditions due to the cement degradation and the bentonite alteration. In this study, a number of thermodynamic calculations were carried out for estimating the groundwater chemistry in an engineered barrier system of TRU waste repository. (author)
