Study of the interaction between intermediate vanadium oxides and carbon

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Stali i Splavov (USSR)

Description

Kinetics of interaction of vanadium oxides V2O5, V3O7, V6O13, and V2O4 with carbon has been investigated. Intermediate oxides have been obtained by solid phase caking of pressed mixtures of V2O5 and V2O3 in an inert atmosphere. For investigation use was made of chromatographic analysis of gaseous reaction products and X-ray phase analysis. Maximum rate of interacting V3O7 and V6O13 with carbon is 1.5-2 times higher than the rate on interacting V2O5 with carbon. ''Anomalously'' high rates of interaction of V3O7 and V6O13 with carbon are explained by considering crystal structures of oxides
