Process for producing a radon solution
Creators
Description
An aqueous pharmaceutical radon solution is produced by a process in which radon gas produced by a special method is absorbed by CO2-saturated water or a diluted solution of inorganic salts. The process comprises the steps of suspending radium sulfate carried by barium sulfate in a nondrying vegetable oil containing colloidal palladium (5:1 by weight) and a small amount of an active agent for oil, feeding the composition to an air-tight vessel, allowing the air phase to absorb the majority of radon gas produced by agitating and recirculating the air in the vessel, and finally circularly blowing this radon-caontaining air in an aqueous solution containing a small amount of an inorganic salt such as sodium chloride or, alternately, in carbon dioxide saturated water delivered from other air-tight vessels. In this way, an aqueous radon solution can be mass-produced which does not contain any radioactive substance other than the disintegrated radon. In one example, 200 g of radium-containing barium sulfate, 0.1 liter of olive oil, 0.1 g of colloidal paradium and 5 g of surface active agent were ground by a colloidal mill to reduce the particle size of the sulfate to 20μ in diameter. This solution was introduced to a radon-generating tank of 2-liter capacity. A 5-liter air-tight absorption tank equipped with air blowing coils was used to produce a radon solution. This tank contained 3-liters of water containing a small amount of sodium chloride and saturated with CO2 gas. This tank was connected to the abovementioned radon-generating tank. (Iwakiri, K.)
