Description

A new rhenium thiochloride of Re3S7Cl7 composition is synthesized at 200 deg C temperature by ReOCl4 interaction with sulfur in S2Cl2 solution. An x-ray diffraction investigation has shown that the compound crystals are trigonal (a=8.999(3), c=22.516(5) A, sp. gr. P3, Z=4). Rhenium thiochloride is trinuclear cluster, constructed of [Re3(μ-S2)3(μ-S)Cl6]+ and Cl- ions, in which six sulfur atoms produce disulfide bridges perpendicular to Re-Re bonds, and the seventh sulfur atom and Cl-anion are located respectively above and under the plane of trigonal Re3 metal frame
