Renal function with digital radiography: a comparison with nuclear medicine

Description
In nuclear medicine laboratories Tc-99m-DTPA is routinely used to evaluate glomerular filtration and I-131-OIH is used to evaluate tubular secretion. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the utility of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) using intravenous injections of iodinated contrast media for assessing renal function. Measurements were carried out in animals in which both nuclear medicine and digital radiography procedures were performed. For the digital radiography studies Renographin-60 and Conray were evaluated as potential glomerular filtration agents. A few studies were performed using stable iodine-127 labelled ortho-iodohippuric acid (OIH) injections and DSA as a potential method for assessing tubular secretion with radiographic technique
