Quantitative analysis of sodium by (p,γ) reactions

  • 1. Facultes Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur (Belgium)

Description

The technique of Na analysis by prompt gamma-ray is described and the optimum bombarding conditions are detected from experimental data. The different possible reactions are reviewed and a tabulation is given of the thick sample gamma-ray yield corresponding to different radiations emitted during bombardment. In the second part the sensitivity limits are estimated and practical rules are given for the utilization of this technique for sodium analysis. Interferences with other nuclear reactions are also discussed. The only possible competiting reactions are on fluorite, neon, magnesium and aluminium. The technique for resolving these interferences is described. The last part is devoted to practical applications of the techniques. (T.G.)
